Out of all of the times of the year, most people choose the summer to get married. After all, summer is warmer, brighter, and even happier. Plus, many honeymoon destinations are at their prime at this time of the year. However, there are some drawbacks to having a wedding during the summer due to the heat. Unfortunately, most bridal parties do not take this into account. Luckily, with a few tips in mind, you can have a successful wedding ceremony during the summer.

Schedule Your Wedding for Later in the Day

If you are going to have a summer wedding, you will want to avoid having it at the hottest part of the day, especially if you are having an outdoor wedding. Ideally, you should wait to schedule your wedding until mid to late evening so that everyone — including yourself — isn't sweating as they are watching you celebrate your nuptials.

Keep a Light Dress Code

Speaking of sweating, you will want to try to keep as light of a dress code as possible for everyone, from your bridal party to your guests. However, this does not necessarily mean that you have to sacrifice the way your bridal party looks. You should choose light, airy fabrics for your wedding gown and for the dresses for your bridesmaids. Groomsmen can ditch their suit jackets. Just remember that this is a big day for you, and you don't want to look back on your pictures to see everyone sweating, in discomfort, and with smeared makeup.

Avoid Heavy Foods

You will also want to make sure to keep the food fresh and light. Because of the heat, heavy food will simply slow your guests down. It could even cause them to feel sick. So, to ensure this does not happen, try to focus on fresh fruits, grilled vegetables, and salads. While it is okay to serve meat, try to avoid red meats like roasts and large steaks.

Be Ready for Summer Rain Showers

Summer is notorious for unexpected rain showers. When you are planning your wedding well in advance, you have no idea whether it is going to be raining on your big day. As the date of your wedding gets closer, you will be able to get a better picture of the weather forecast so you can plan accordingly. Regardless, though, you should always plan for the absolute worst, meaning you should have a backup plan and suitable shelter.

There are plenty of things you can do to plan a successful summer wedding. For more tips than those above, speak to a wedding planner or coordinator.
