If you find the idea of celebrating your wedding day in a beautiful barn very romantic, here are some tips to remember when looking for this type of venue.

Seek out a barn wedding venue instead of using a farmer's barn

If you know someone who is a farmer and has a barn, then you may have thought about asking them if you could use their building for your wedding. However, although this could be a cheap wedding venue, it won't help you to have the amazing wedding you want. It would be much wiser to book a barn wedding venue, which is regularly used as a space for events like this.

A farmer's barn is regularly used to house animals, and it will smell of these animals. This particular smell tends to permeate walls and floors and could still linger, even if the farmer were to scrub the barn for hours and hose down every single surface. Conversely, a barn wedding venue that has not been used to house animals for decades (or ever) will have a fresh and pleasant odor. This matters, as your wedding meal may not be as delicious nor your dance with your spouse as romantic as you hoped it would be if there is a smell of cow dung or sheep's wool wafting through the air.

Additionally, a barn that has undergone lots of remodeling work to make it usable as a wedding venue will have clean, wide paths leading up to it that will make approaching and leaving the barn very easy. However, a barn that is normally used to house animals may not have any dedicated paths that lead to it. Instead, you might have to trudge through a muddy field to reach or leave this structure. Doing this in your tux or wedding gown could leave your outfit badly stained. Additionally, any guests who decide to wear high heels might find it impossible to walk through a field like this in their footwear, as their stiletto heels will sink into the dirt with every step they take.

Don't assume you have to have a full-on rustic theme

Because a barn wedding venue normally has rustic features, such as old wooden walls, exposed rafters, and concrete or wooden flooring, couples who book a venue like this will often go for a rustic wedding theme. Whilst this can work really well, you should not feel obligated to use this theme if there are other ones that appeal to you.

For example, you can opt for very romantic, glamorous decor in the form of pink and cream roses on the tables, chandeliers hanging from the barn's rafters, and big, pastel-colored chiffon bows on the backs of the chairs. The contrast between these chic and pretty decorations and the barn's wonderfully rustic appearance could be quite beautiful. Using a theme that contrasts with the barn's aesthetic will also ensure that the photos you take in this setting will look different to those taken at the other weddings which were also hosted at this venue.
